Chronic Pain Treatments

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, October 20, 2011

All Chronic pain treatments offered at The Franklin Pain and Wellness Center are minimally invasive and are usually a good alternative to surgery. Chronic Pain Treatments can range from injections to stimulators, depending on the type of chronic pain the patient is suffering from.

For example, low back and radiating leg pain can be treated with Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injections. Spine fractures caused by osteoporosis can be treated by a minimally invasive procedure called Kyphoplasty. Kyphoplasty provides fast back pain relief by using a thin hollow tube to insert a cast into a collapsed vertebrae and help straighten the spine. A procedure that can be very effective in relieving certain types of pain in the back, legs and arms is Spinal Cord Stimulation. This is also a minimally invasive procedure that uses electrical stimulation to mitigate pain sensations.

Our pain specialists will work with your doctors as a medical team to offer the best type of pain solution for your chronic pain. To schedule an evaluation and talk about the chronic pain treatments that are available at The Franklin Pain and Wellness Center, please call (508) 507-8818 or e-mail us at staff@franklinpaincenter.com.

Fibromyalgia Treatment

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 22, 2011

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Fibromyalgia results in pain throughout the body and often exhaustion that can last for months. It’s not exactly proven what causes fibromyalgia and the typical fybromyalgia symptoms are pain in the muscles and joints at the slightest touch.

Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals. Fibromyalgia has been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression and anxiety.

Women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than are men. Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, TMJ disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgiasymptoms can be controlled in various ways. Exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures can help. There are various procedures that our pain specialists at Franklin Pain and Wellness Center can perform to mitigate the pain associated with fibromyalgia. Contact us to discuss a customized treatment plan for your specific needs.
