Shingles

common sites of shingles

Shingles is a viral infection, which causes a painful rash. The most common area for shingles is around the middle of the back and around one side of the chest. Even after the rash is gone, the virus stays in the nerve tissue near the spinal cord and brain. If the pain lasts after the rash is gone, a condition called Postherpetic neuralgia can develop.

This pain can last for months or even years, so treatment is important in order to maintain daily life functions. Our pain specialists will take your medical history and symptoms into account to create a treatment plan aimed at minimizing your pain.
